Iconic Fitness Figures

Greetings! Last week fitness guru Tony Horton received the Jack LaLanne award at the 2016 IDEA World Convention, the largest global fitness and wellness event in the world. Horton, most popularly known as the creator of the in-home fitness program P90X, has an interesting onscreen persona.  A quick glace across blogs and social media and you can get a sense that his commentary and antics are an acquired taste. Nonetheless, Horton's fitness information is solid.

Over the last four or five years we've read his books Bring It! and The Big Picture and used a number of his in-home fitness programs. In fact, I followed the P90X Legs and Back workout today. I haven't exercised with P90X in years. I'm reminded that the routines are thorough and effective as my legs are still "feeling the burn" some six hours later.

Tony Horton has a very positive attitude. In my opinion, his programs are not cultish and certainly do not require extreme lifestyle changes to be successful. Those are a couple of the reasons I subscribe to many of his fitness theories. Horton has more than once tipped his hat to Jack LaLanne on DVD’s and elsewhere. I wonder if in twenty years from now the “TH” Squat will have as much traction as the Jumping “Jack” has over the decades.

Congratulations to Mr. Horton.

Bring It!  Run!
